Joe Igbokwe, a top member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has once again spoken against the push to make Biafra an independent country for the Igbo people.
He posted on his Facebook page, warning that these protests and calls for a separate Biafra could end up causing damage to the South-East region.
Igbokwe shared that back in 1995, he wrote a book called IGBO: 25 Years After Biafra to speak about the issue, but people didn’t pay attention. He said he tried again in 2020 with another book, IGBO: 50 Years After Biafra, yet still nobody listened.
He added that he has written many articles to explain that these constant protests and agitations could destroy the South-East. Now, he says he is tired of repeating himself and has decided to stop trying.
Meanwhile, according to reports from DAILY POST, members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are enforcing a stay-at-home order to observe Biafra Day 2025.
On Friday morning, major cities like Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, were quiet and empty, as residents stayed indoors.
In many parts of the South-East, roads were almost completely empty, with only a few tricycles and vehicles seen moving around.
