As Biafra Day approaches, some groups like the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have asked people to stay at home to mark the day. However, the Imo State Police, led by Commissioner Aboki Danjuma, is telling residents to ignore this sit-at-home order and continue with their normal daily activities.
To make sure everyone stays safe, the police say they have already placed officers at key locations across the state. These officers are there to stop any trouble from happening and keep the peace.
Police spokesperson DSP Henry Okoye told reporters that the force is fully ready to handle any form of civil unrest. He said the police will not allow anyone to disturb the peace of the state.
The Police Commissioner also advised residents to ignore what he called a harmful and illegal order from IPOB and its security group, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). He said this kind of message only causes fear and confusion.
He also assured everyone that the police are working closely with other security teams to protect lives and property. They have already put in place strong plans to prevent any attacks or threats.
The statement also explained that leaders from different security agencies are working hand-in-hand. These include Brigadier General M. I. Abbas of the Nigerian Army, the Director of the DSS, Air Force Commander Air Cdre. De Bello, and heads of the Civil Defence, Immigration, FRSC, and Fire Service.
Security forces have now been sent to all 27 local government areas in Imo State. They are carrying out visible patrols to show their presence, build public confidence, and discourage criminals from causing any trouble.
The police have also warned that anyone who tries to enforce the sit-at-home order or cause disorder will be dealt with according to the law. They say no one is above the law, and peace must be maintained.
Finally, DSP Okoye asked people in the state to be alert and report anything strange or suspicious to the police. Residents can contact the police through their emergency lines: 08034773600 or 08148024755.
