The World’s Most Educated Countries

Education is very important for countries and their people. Some countries have more adults with college degrees than others. This blog looks at which countries have the most educated adults aged 25 to 64. The information comes from a recent study by CBRE Research.

Ireland is at the top. More than half of its working-age adults—52.4%—have a bachelor’s degree or higher. This means many people in Ireland have finished college or university.

Close behind Ireland are Switzerland, Singapore, and Belgium. Each of these countries has over 44% of adults with a college degree.

India has the largest number of people with degrees—139.4 million. But only about 14% of its working-age population has a degree. This shows India has many educated people because it has a huge population, even though the percentage is lower.

The United States is also one of the top countries. It has a high percentage of educated adults and a large total number of degree holders.

China has the second-highest number of adults with degrees—88.1 million. But China has the lowest percentage of educated adults in this list, only 6.9%.

Europe has many countries with high education rates. More than half of the top 20 countries are in Europe. This shows that Europe is leading in higher education for working adults.

Here are some examples from the study: Ireland has 52.4% of adults with degrees (1.8 million people), Switzerland has 46% (2.7 million), Singapore has 45% (1.9 million), Belgium has 44.1% (3.3 million), the United States has 40.3% (78.2 million), India has 14.2% (139.4 million), and China has 6.9% (88.1 million).

Many other countries also made the list, including the UK, Netherlands, Australia, Israel, South Korea, Japan, Germany, France, Brazil, Mexico, and more.

Having more people with college degrees can help countries grow their economies, improve technology, and solve problems. This data helps us see which countries are investing in education and building a skilled workforce.
