Gabriel Suswam, the former governor of Benue State, has said that President Bola Tinubu’s government has not done enough to help Nigerians who are struggling.
Suswam made these comments on the TV show Politics Today on Channels Television. The interview came as President Tinubu marks two years in office.
According to Suswam, the president has failed to reduce the hardships caused by the policies of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is the party leading the federal government.
He believes the APC government is not paying enough attention to the problems facing everyday Nigerians.
Suswam said, “Like many Nigerians, I think this government has not done well at all. You can see the problems everywhere.”
He added that, from his understanding of world economics, when a government makes difficult economic decisions that hurt people, it should also have plans to help reduce those difficulties.
However, Suswam criticized the government for removing subsidies on fuel and transport, lowering the value of Nigeria’s currency, and raising the interest rate (called the Monetary Policy Rate).
He said that these actions make life harder for Nigerians, especially since Nigeria depends on buying many things from other countries.
In his view, without support measures, these harsh economic changes are causing more pain for the people.
