A tragic incident has left a family of three dead after a man from Abia State reportedly set his house on fire because he believed his wife was cheating on him.
According to police reports, the man, identified as Mr. Udochi Amala, aged 40, died along with his wife and their 2-year-old daughter following the fire. The shocking event happened in Asa Umudioka, a community in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
The Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said that the incident was first reported by the head of the local vigilante group on May 16, 2025. The group said they heard loud cries coming from the house. When they arrived, they saw the house in flames.
Before the fire, Mr. Amala had repeatedly accused his wife of being unfaithful. In a disturbing turn of events, he allegedly set the house on fire with himself, his wife, and their child still inside. Unfortunately, their daughter died from the fire immediately.
Officers from the Osisioma Division came quickly to the scene, recovered the child’s body, and took it to the morgue. Both Mr. Amala and his wife were still alive but badly burned when help arrived.
They were rushed to the hospital for emergency care. However, the next day—May 17, 2025—both were declared dead due to the severe injuries they had suffered.
This heartbreaking incident has shocked the local community and highlights the dangers of unresolved domestic issues.
