The Nigerian government has started paying the N35,000 wage award arrears to federal workers. This payment had been delayed for some time but is now being released.
The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) shared the update in a statement. Bawa Mokwa, who is the agency’s Director of Press and Public Relations, made the announcement on Monday.
According to the statement, many federal workers confirmed they received the payment on Monday. This shows that the payment process has officially begun.
The Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Babatunde Ogunjimi, also cleared the air about a recent report. He said he never claimed that the N35,000 wage award was not included in the 2025 budget of N54.99 trillion.
The OAGF further explained that Mr. Ogunjimi did not speak to the press about the wage award. They assured the public that the government still plans to pay all outstanding arrears as earlier promised.
The payment will be made in five parts, with N35,000 paid each month until the full amount is settled.
