Man, wife arrested for trafficking 12 children in Abia

A man and his wife were arrested for trafficking 12 babies in Abia State. The police found these children in an illegal baby home run by the couple.

The Abia State Police Command rescued twelve children from different villages. The couple, Sunday Emebo and Blessing Emebo, were keeping the children in their apartment.

According to DSP Maureen Chinaka, the police spokesperson, the couple was caught on May 19, 2025. They were running an unregistered motherless babies home at their apartment on Ikot Ekpene Road, Aba.

The police got information that led to the rescue of the children. The babies were very young, between six and fourteen months old.

Sunday and Blessing Emebo are now being questioned by the police at the State Criminal Investigation Department. They will face court soon after investigations are complete.

The rescued children have been given to the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs, where they will be cared for safely.

The Abia State Police say they are working hard to reduce crime in the area. They also remind the public to be careful and never leave children with strangers.
