Unity Cup: I will try new players, systems – Super Eagles coach, Chelle

The head coach of the Super Eagles, Eric Chelle, said the Unity Cup tournament will be a good chance to try out new players and test different team strategies.

The Super Eagles, who have won the African Cup three times, are one of the four teams playing in the Unity Cup.

Chelle picked 10 players who play in Nigeria’s local league for this competition.

He also invited some players who don’t always make the team, including Cyriel Dessers and Christantus Uche.

“We have many players in Nigeria, so it’s important to give many of them a chance to show their skills,” said Chelle. “We have a plan and want to build a clear style of play, so we need players who can quickly learn and fit into this plan,” he told reporters in London on Monday.

“The Unity Cup is a chance to test players, try new tactics, and prepare well for September.”

Chelle said he watched two local league games while in Nigeria and studied some players. He believes some local players have good talent and can add energy and toughness to the team.

He also explained why he invited Ahmed Musa and nine other local players.

“I chose 10 players from the Nigerian league because they are good,” he said. “Ahmed Musa is a top player that everyone in Nigeria knows well. He has experience from playing many important games, so he can add value to the team.”

The Super Eagles will play against Ghana’s Black Stars at Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford on Wednesday.
