President Donald Trump has said he will win his fight against Harvard University. He also warned that he might take away a large amount of government money given to the school.
On Memorial Day, Trump wrote that he is thinking about taking $3 billion in grants from Harvard. He called Harvard “very antisemitic” and said he wants to give that money to trade schools instead. He did not explain more about this plan.
Trump also talked about stopping foreign students from coming to Harvard. These students are important because they make up a big part of Harvard’s enrollment and pay tuition. Trump said he is waiting for Harvard to give a list of its foreign students. He wants to find out how many “troublemakers” should not be allowed back into the country after what he called a “waste of billions of dollars.”
He added, “But don’t worry, the government will win in the end!”
Last week, the government tried to stop Harvard from accepting foreign students. However, a judge paused this order until after a court hearing this week.
Trump’s anger with Harvard started because the university refused to let the government control how it admits students and hires staff. Trump also accused Harvard of supporting anti-Semitism and spreading liberal ideas.
This fight with Harvard is part of a bigger campaign by Trump. He is targeting universities, media groups, and other organizations that he thinks support left-wing views. The government is now reviewing $9 billion in funding for Harvard. It has already frozen $2.2 billion in grants and paused $60 million in contracts. In addition, one Harvard Medical School researcher is facing deportation.
