The chairman of Rano Local Government, Malam Naziru Yau, has asked people in the town to stay peaceful after a violent protest broke out. The unrest led to cars being damaged and the local police station being burned down.
The trouble started after an incident between a young man named Abdullahi Musa, also called “Kuli Kuli”, and the police chief of the area, CSP Muhammed Baba Ali. The situation got worse when Musa reportedly died during the encounter.
Early Monday morning, angry youths stormed the streets and attacked the Rano Divisional Police Station. They set the building on fire, damaged eight vehicles, and reportedly beat the police chief until he lost consciousness.
Soon after the chaos, Kano State’s Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Bakori, came to Rano. He met with local leaders to understand what happened and discuss ways to bring back peace.
To help calm the area, the police assigned a new officer, CSP Umar Usman, to take over as the head of the division. The police are asking everyone to follow the law while they continue to investigate what really happened.
