French President Emmanuel Macron has dismissed speculations surrounding a video showing his wife, Brigitte, shoving his face. The footage was captured shortly after the couple arrived in Hanoi, Vietnam, for an official visit.
In the video, Macron can be seen standing at the entrance of his aircraft shortly after landing in Hanoi. Suddenly, a hand and arm, dressed in red, reaches out and appears to push his face. The owner of the arm is not entirely visible in the footage.
Though initially startled by the gesture, Macron quickly composed himself and waved to the press gathered outside the aircraft. His reaction was calm and poised, despite the surprising moment.
During a press briefing in Hanoi on Monday, Macron spoke about the incident and expressed his frustration with the rumors it sparked. “The video shows me joking and teasing my wife, but it has been blown out of proportion,” he explained.
Macron admitted the video was real but criticized the way it had been misused. “Yes, the footage is genuine, but people have attached all sorts of ridiculous meanings to it,” he said, calling out those who sensationalized the moment.
