Focus on reasons you were admitted to school – Unversity Don cautions students

The Vice Chancellor of Havilla University in Ikom, Cross River State, Prof. Silvanus Obi-Abang, has advised new students to stay focused on their education. He encouraged them to be serious, disciplined, and committed to their studies.

Speaking at the university’s 2024/2025 matriculation ceremony, Prof. Obi-Abang warned the new students to avoid cultism and any form of crime while on campus. The event was held over the weekend at the main campus in Ikom.

He addressed the 70 new students, telling them to stay away from laziness, cheating in exams, and bad behavior. He said students must show good character and take their studies seriously.

Prof. Obi-Abang also reminded them about the importance of honesty, hard work, and moral discipline. He warned that students who misbehave or skip classes could face punishment, including suspension or being sent out of school.

“The university will not accept laziness or bad conduct,” he said. “Students must show they are serious about their studies and behave well.”

He also shared that Havilla University is focused on giving quality education. He said that 88% of the university’s courses have been approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC), which shows the school’s strong academic standards.

The 70 new students are in three faculties: 59 in Health Sciences, 3 in Management and Social Sciences, and 8 in Computer Science.
