Tinubu appoints Yazid Danfulani as MD of Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC). This move is expected to strengthen support for Nigerian farmers and improve food security across the country.

The official announcement was made in a letter dated May 22, 2025. It was signed by Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The appointment will take effect from May 21, 2025, and will run for an initial term of four years, in line with the NAIC Act.

Danfulani, who holds the traditional title of Turakin Zamfara, brings fresh energy and strategic direction to NAIC. The organization plays a key role in protecting farmers from losses caused by droughts, pests, diseases, and other natural disasters.

He is a seasoned administrator and banker. Danfulani holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Arts and Management from the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom. Over the years, he has worked in important positions at the Central Bank of Nigeria and also served as Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in Zamfara State.

The letter also noted that Danfulani’s salary and work conditions will be based on the guidelines set by the 2008 law covering the pay of political and public office holders.

Many people have welcomed this appointment, saying it shows confidence in Danfulani’s leadership and experience. His new role is seen as a chance to improve the insurance system for farmers, make agricultural insurance more accessible, and ensure NAIC plays a stronger role in Nigeria’s plans for food security.
