Akpabio and Yahaya Bello to testify at Natasha Akpoti’s defamation trial

Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello are going to testify in the ongoing defamation trial against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. The case is being heard at the High Court in Abuja.

Natasha, who has been suspended from the Senate, is facing charges from the Federal Government. She is accused of making damaging statements about the two politicians during a live TV interview.

According to court papers filed on May 16, Natasha is the only person on trial. The government says her comments were meant to harm the reputations of Akpabio and Bello, which goes against Section 391 of the Penal Code. If found guilty, she could be punished under Section 392.

One of the main accusations is that she said Akpabio and Bello planned to kill her. During the interview, she reportedly claimed they had a meeting where they talked about her assassination.

She also questioned why the Senate President took away her security. She said it made her an easy target and accused him of insisting she should be killed in Kogi. Natasha said her biggest concern was staying alive, because if something happened to her, no one would be left to seek justice.

The government believes Natasha made these statements knowing they could ruin the names of the people involved.

This case has added more tension to the political scene. Natasha was suspended from the Senate on March 6, with the leadership blaming her for bad conduct during a seating dispute involving Akpabio.

Now, with both Akpabio and Bello expected to speak in court, many are watching closely. Their testimonies might play a big role in how the trial ends.
