‘I no be thief’ — Nigerian singer reacts to Peter Okoye’s arrest in Ghana

Popular Nigerian singer Peter Okoye has spoken out after a man with his name was arrested in Ghana. The news caused confusion online because some people thought the singer was the one arrested.

A video went viral on social media showing Ghana police arresting a man named Peter Okoye. The suspect is 31 years old and was accused of fraud and kidnapping.

Because the name is the same, many people online mixed up the two and thought the singer was involved.

To clear things up, Peter Okoye shared the video again on his X (formerly Twitter) page. He asked the police in Ghana to clearly say which Peter Okoye they meant.

In a message written in Pidgin English, he said, “Abeg make una dey specificaly dey specify which ‘PETER OKOYE’. I no be thief.” This means he wants everyone to know he is not the person arrested and he is not a thief.

Peter Okoye’s quick response helped stop the misunderstanding and reminded people to check facts before jumping to conclusions.
