BREAKING: Tinubu presents N1.481trn Rivers 2025 budget to NASS

President Bola Tinubu has sent the 2025 budget for Rivers State to the National Assembly for approval. The proposed total budget is N1.481 trillion.

He explained that this move became necessary after the Supreme Court canceled the original budget passed by the state. Also, Rivers State is currently under a state of emergency, which has made normal governance difficult.

Since March 18, 2025, the Rivers State House of Assembly has not been active. On that day, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state. He also suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, for six months.

Along with this, all elected members of the state’s House of Assembly were also suspended. In their place, Tinubu appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as the Sole Administrator to oversee the state’s affairs.

Because of the emergency, the National Assembly has now taken over the lawmaking duties of the Rivers State Assembly, as permitted by the amended 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.

Breaking down the budget, Tinubu revealed that N324 billion will go to infrastructure development, while N166 billion is planned for health services. He also stated that N75.6 billion will be spent on education and N31.4 billion will support agriculture.

The President said that the agriculture section of the budget is expected to create around 6,000 new jobs for people in the state.

Tinubu urged the National Assembly to approve the budget quickly so that it can benefit the people of Rivers State as soon as possible.
