I can’t rule out some repentant Boko Haram terrorists returning to the bush – Zulum

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has said that some Boko Haram fighters who left terrorism might still go back to fighting again. He spoke about this during an interview on News Central Television’s Breakfast Show.

Zulum explained that while many former Boko Haram members now help as informants, he cannot completely rule out the chance that a few will return to violence.

He added that about 90 percent of the repentant fighters are living good lives and are not involved in any attacks. This shows that most have really changed.

The governor also said that fighting terrorism needs more than just military action. He believes the government should focus on social, economic, and political ways to solve the problem.

Zulum said, “Terrorism cannot be stopped by fighting alone. We need proper non-kinetic measures like helping people get jobs and improving their lives.”

He mentioned that the approach used in Borno, which includes these non-military efforts along with the support of the Nigerian military, has helped reduce violence.

However, he warned that out of the more than 300,000 people who have left Boko Haram, a small number might still go back to the bush and take up arms again.

This shows that the fight against terrorism needs to continue, with a focus on helping people change their lives for the better.
