SDP denies appointing three new NWC members

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has rejected claims that it appointed three new members to its National Working Committee (NWC). The national leadership said the reports are untrue and should not be taken seriously by party members or the general public.

According to the party, the news being spread is completely false and misleading. They stated that the announcement was not authorised by the party and asked everyone to ignore it.

The party, through its Deputy National Secretary, Alhaji Muhammad Biu, said that no appointments were made. He denied that Senator Ugochukwu Uba, Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar, and Mr. Hussaini Ado Bello had been selected for the roles of Deputy National Chairman (South), Deputy National Chairman (North), or National Financial Secretary.

The false reports were said to come from a statement allegedly issued by National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba. But the party insisted that there was no official meeting or discussion held to approve those appointments.

The SDP clearly said that the press release being shared is not valid. They said the information does not follow the party’s normal procedures and does not represent the decisions made by its leadership.

The party reassured the public that it will continue to follow proper rules, act with transparency, and involve everyone in its decision-making. They also warned that some individuals and political opponents may be trying to create confusion in the party before the 2027 general elections.

Supporters were asked to ignore the false reports and to keep working to strengthen the party across Nigeria. The SDP restated its goals of helping the country grow and empowering people at the community level.

The leadership also addressed the claim that a meeting was held on May 15, 2025, where the appointments were made. They explained that no decisions about new leadership positions were made at that meeting.

The party reminded everyone that it is a united organisation based on fairness and service. It said the SDP is not a private project but a national movement focused on doing what’s best for all Nigerians.

In conclusion, the party said it is ready to provide strong and purposeful leadership as the 2027 elections approach. Members were encouraged to work harder in reaching more people at the grassroots level to help the SDP grow and become stronger across the country.
