The Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) and the U.S. Consulate have launched a new programme to help young Nigerian journalists grow their skills. This new programme is called the Adejumobi Adegbite Fellowship, and applications are now open.
The U.S. Consulate shared this news in a statement on Tuesday. The fellowship is named in memory of Adejumobi Adegbite, a respected journalist and U.S. Consulate Information Specialist, who passed away in July 2023.
This one-year fellowship will train 10 young journalists who have been working for five years or less. It will focus on investigative journalism, using multimedia, reporting with data, and following good ethics in journalism. The training will include workshops and guidance from experienced journalists.
Julie McKay, a top official from the U.S. Consulate, said Adegbite was a talented journalist and an important member of their team. She also thanked FIJ for creating this programme in his honour and for helping young reporters find their path in journalism.
The 10 selected fellows will receive mobile journalism tools and regular support to help them produce important and meaningful stories for the public.
