The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has raised concerns about the long delay in fixing the Kaduna Refinery. They are calling on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited to give Nigerians a clear date for when the project will be completed.
Even though the government has made many promises, the Kaduna Refinery is still not working. This refinery has the capacity to process 110,000 barrels of oil each day, and its closure has made fuel supply problems worse, especially in northern Nigeria. Transporting fuel from the south is expensive and adds to the hardship.
In a statement, PETROAN criticized the constant delays and called for more honesty and accountability from the NNPC. They said the Kaduna Refinery, along with the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries, must be completed quickly to help the country produce enough fuel and reduce economic stress.
They explained that the Kaduna Refinery is very important for getting fuel to the northern parts of the country. It would also help lower the high cost of moving fuel from southern depots. The longer the refinery stays closed, the more damage it does to the economy.
PETROAN’s president, Billy Gillis Harry, said the delay is unacceptable. He urged President Bola Tinubu to step in and take action. He also suggested setting up a task force made up of key industry groups like NMDPRA, NUPRC, PENGASSAN, and NUPENG. This team would help fix the issues and speed up the work.
The group also wants the NNPC to appoint a permanent Managing Director for the Kaduna Refinery. They believe having someone in charge will help move things faster and get better results.
PETROAN warned that if action isn’t taken soon, the country could face higher inflation and more energy problems. They also reminded everyone that a lot of borrowed money is being used for these refinery projects. Nigerians have a right to know how this money is being spent and when the refineries will finally start working.
