Recently, there were reports that 15 students went missing and were kidnapped after taking their rescheduled UTME exams in Imo State. But the Imo State Police have now said that the students were not kidnapped—they were actually stuck because their bus broke down.
The police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, explained that the students were traveling from Onitsha to Imo State to take their JAMB exams. They arrived safely and took their exams as planned. On the way back, their bus broke down in a place with poor phone signals. This made it hard for anyone to reach them by phone.
Because people couldn’t contact the students, rumors spread online that they had been kidnapped. The police quickly acted and worked with other security agencies to find the students. They found them safe and took them to Owerri, where the bus was repaired.
After the bus was fixed, the students and their school owner continued their trip and returned home safely. The police thanked everyone who showed concern and quickly informed them about the situation.
This case shows how important it is to check facts before spreading rumors and how the police and security agencies work to keep students safe.
