The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cleared the air about his health. He said he is perfectly fine and not sick, as some rumours have claimed.
Wike believes that those spreading the story about his health are just trying to cause trouble. He said the rumours were created by people who don’t wish him well.
He spoke about this in a BBC Pidgin interview that will be available to the public on Saturday evening.
In a clip from the interview, Wike asked, “Do I look like someone who is sick? Do I even look older than 30? I am very healthy.”
When asked about grooming his son for politics, Wike replied, “What’s wrong with that?” He didn’t see anything bad in it.
In April, there were reports that Wike collapsed during an event at the Presidential Villa in Abuja and was flown out of the country for medical treatment.
However, just two days after those rumours, Wike appeared in public again. He joined other leaders for a Sallah visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa and looked happy and full of energy.
His media aide, Lere Olayinka, also rejected the rumours, calling them false and baseless.
Wike, who was once the Governor of Rivers State, said the rumours about his health were just a way to take attention away from something more serious. He was referring to a recent statement by the former Rivers Head of Service, George Nwaeke, about an explosion at the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Wike made it clear—he is strong, healthy, and not bothered by fake news.
