The Delta State Police Command has reacted to a viral video where a woman accused police officers of assaulting her Ghanaian/German husband during a road trip in Nigeria. The police have denied all the claims made in the video.
In the viral video, the Nigerian woman explained that she and her husband live in Germany and had come to Nigeria for a family celebration. She mentioned that this was her husband’s first visit to the country.
According to her, after the family event in the village, they decided to travel to Lagos by road. Along the way, they met some police officers conducting a stop-and-search operation on the Agbor-Benin expressway. The officers checked all their bags and found a camouflage trouser in one of them. She said the officers claimed it was illegal to have such clothing.
She also said that an argument broke out, and one of the officers allegedly held her husband by the neck during the disagreement.
Reacting to this video, the police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe described the woman’s claims as false and baseless. He said there was no truth to her story.
SP Edafe added that the Delta State Police, led by Commissioner Olufemi Abaniwonda, do not support any form of misconduct or rude behavior by officers towards the public. He assured that the command has a record of discipline and professionalism.
