Tinubu approves implementation of Nigeria First Policy

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the full start of the Nigeria First Policy, a major move to stop the import of foreign goods and promote locally made products in the country.

The announcement was made public on Wednesday through an official statement shared by NTA.

With this policy, government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) will now follow new rules when buying goods and services. These new rules will make sure they give priority to products made in Nigeria.

President Tinubu said this decision was made after a recommendation from the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Mr. Adebowale Adedokun. The policy is also part of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to boost the economy and create more local jobs.

According to the presidency, the full guidelines on how the policy will be carried out will be shared by the BPP Director-General, Dr. Adedokun.

It’s also worth noting that back on May 3rd, 2025, President Tinubu had already announced a ban on importing foreign goods that can be made in Nigeria. The new Nigeria First Policy is now the next step in fully supporting that goal.

This move is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s local industries, reduce foreign spending, and increase job opportunities across the country.
