A group called the Coalition for Safer North-West Communities (CSNC) has asked the National Assembly to step in and check what is happening in Zamfara State. They are especially calling on lawmakers from the state to take action and help bring back peace.
The group said the continued killings, kidnappings, and bandit attacks in Zamfara are because the state government is not doing enough. They blamed poor leadership and fear from those in charge as the reason the situation keeps getting worse.
In a statement from their President, Alhaji Murtala Shehu Gusau, the group said that even though the federal government has sent soldiers to the state, Zamfara is still very unsafe. They believe the main problem is the governor’s weak and slow response to the crisis.
CSNC said Governor Dauda Lawal has not shown strong leadership. They believe he has failed to give people and security agencies the support they need to feel confident and act.
They also said rural areas in Zamfara have become deadly zones, while people in the capital live in daily fear. This continues despite many promises from the governor that things will improve.
The group gave examples of towns like Dansadau, Maru, Anka, and Tsafe, where farmers are afraid to go to their farms. Women are being kidnapped during the day, and children grow up hearing gunshots. They believe the governor’s media statements are not helping anyone.
They said the way the governor is handling the security problem is not working. They accused him of not working well with the federal government and local leaders. They also said he has not used community support to gather helpful information to stop attacks.
CSNC strongly believes that Zamfara is in serious trouble, but the government is more focused on political games than real solutions. They asked how many more people have to die before real action is taken. They think the governor’s plan has failed and new ideas are needed fast.
They also said the governor is not working with important people like traditional leaders, local guards, and federal security agencies. They accused him of trying to control everything but not having the ability to manage the situation.
The group said this is not a normal time and Zamfara is facing a real emergency. If the governor cannot lead well during such a crisis, they said he should consider stepping aside for someone who can. They believe the people of Zamfara deserve better leadership than what they are getting now.
Alhaji Gusau said their views are based on many conversations with affected communities, civil society groups, and aid workers. Many of these people are worried about the governor’s silence or slow response to serious issues.
They also questioned how the money set aside for security is being used. They want the Zamfara State Government to publish how it spent its security funds for 2023 and the first part of 2024.
The group challenged the government to be open about its budget. They believe the public deserves to know how the money meant to protect lives is being used.
CSNC also urged Senator Ikra Aliyu Bilbis and other lawmakers from Zamfara to speak up. They said the suffering of the people should not be ignored at the national level.
They promised to keep speaking up and pushing both state and national leaders until there is real change in Zamfara.
The group ended by saying they want peace in Zamfara, but peace will not come from empty promises. It requires strong, honest leadership—something they say is missing right now. They called on Governor Lawal to take action or step aside for someone who can.
