Nollywood has lost one of its vibrant voices. Actress and body positivity activist Monalisa Stephen has sadly passed away.
She died on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, in Lagos after suffering from complications related to low blood sugar and internal bleeding.
The news of her death was confirmed by her immediate younger sister. It was later made public on Wednesday morning by Seun Oloketuyi, the Chief Executive Officer of Best of Nollywood (BON).
Seun shared the heartbreaking news on his Instagram page, saying Monalisa, who was also a brand influencer, died after battling health issues. He described her as a beautiful and hardworking person.
Monalisa gained fame through her roles in Nollywood films, but she became even more recognized for promoting body confidence, mental health awareness, and self-love.
She often spoke out against unrealistic beauty standards, body shaming, and cyberbullying. Her honest opinions sparked important conversations on social media and inspired many people.
Her passing is a big loss to Nollywood and the body positivity community. She will be remembered for her courage, strength, and dedication to helping others love themselves.
