Residents of Marte local government area in Borno state have fled their homes after a brutal attack by ISWAP terrorists on Monday, May 12. The terrorists are reported to have killed four soldiers and taken several locals captive during the invasion.
According to sources, the terrorists came in large groups and engaged in a fierce fight with the military. The clash took place in New Marte, located in the Lake Chad Basin area, and ultimately, the terrorists succeeded in overpowering the troops.
Eyewitnesses reveal that the terrorists now control the town, with many residents fleeing to Dikwa, a nearby town about 27 kilometers away. A local source mentioned, “We spent the night in the bush, and many people are still trapped. The terrorists took over the military base and stole weapons and ammunition.”
Another resident stated, “The terrorists have taken control of New Marte once again, and we are facing a serious crisis.
