Deportation order: We’ll not cooperate, assist Trump – Chicago police

The Chicago Police Department has made it clear that they will not join in on President Donald Trump’s push to deport undocumented immigrants from the United States.

This statement came out on Monday, just after Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson repeated his promise to stand against Trump’s strict immigration plans.

Trump had earlier promised to bring back tough border rules across the country. These plans are part of his return to office and were supported by a new executive order he signed on Monday.

Even with Trump’s order to deport undocumented immigrants, leaders in Chicago have decided they will not go along with it. They’ve made their own choice to protect people in their city.

Chicago police explained that they do not keep track of anyone’s immigration status. They also do not share that kind of information with federal immigration officers.

In a statement, the department said it would not help with immigration actions that fall under civil law. They said this follows the City of Chicago’s rules.

They also added that their main job is to stop crime. They will still do that job no matter where a person comes from or what their immigration status is.
