Liverpool superstar, Mohamed Salah is named FWA Footballer of the Year

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year for 2025. The Egyptian forward continues to shine in the Premier League, adding another major award to his impressive career.

Salah, who is now 32 years old, received more than 90% of the votes from the FWA’s 900 members. His teammate, Virgil van Dijk, came in second. Newcastle’s Alexander Isak finished third, while Arsenal’s Declan Rice came fourth.

This season, Salah has been a key player for Liverpool. He scored 28 goals and provided 18 assists in 35 league matches. His outstanding performances have played a big role in Liverpool’s success.

Under new manager Arne Slot, Salah helped the Reds win their 20th top-flight title, putting them on level terms with rivals Manchester United for the most league titles in English football history.

This is the third time Salah has won the FWA Footballer of the Year award. He now shares the record for most wins with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. His latest win comes shortly after helping Liverpool lift the Premier League trophy.

Virgil van Dijk, Salah’s teammate and a strong defender, came close in the voting. He has also been a solid performer throughout the season.

Third place went to Alexander Isak of Newcastle United. Isak had a fantastic season, scoring 26 goals in all competitions. He was crucial in helping Newcastle end their 56-year wait for a trophy, scoring in the final against Liverpool.

Declan Rice earned fourth place in the voting. The Arsenal midfielder impressed fans and writers with his consistent displays in both the Premier League and Champions League.

In total, 15 other players received votes. Some of the notable names include Bruno Fernandes, Chris Wood, Alexis Mac Allister, Morgan Gibbs-White, Ryan Gravenberch, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jacob Murphy, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Murillo, and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Salah’s continued excellence proves why he remains one of the top footballers in the world.
