Inter Milan’s coach, Simone Inzaghi, has spoken highly of a Barcelona player who stood out to him during their UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg match on Tuesday.
While the match was filled with goals from players like Lautaro Martinez, Hakan Calhanoglu, and others, it was ultimately Davide Frattesi’s extra-time goal that secured Inter Milan’s spot in the final. They will now face Paris Saint-Germain or Arsenal.
Despite the many goals scored during the game, Inzaghi was quick to highlight one player who caught his attention—Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong. Inzaghi described the Dutch midfielder as “sensational” and praised his impressive skills on the field.
Inzaghi remarked that while much attention had been given to Barcelona’s 16-year-old Lamine Yamal, it was de Jong who impressed him the most. He pointed out that de Jong, who had missed their previous encounter due to injury, showcased extraordinary talent in both legs of the semi-final.
The Inter Milan manager expressed his admiration for how de Jong controlled the ball, made precise passes, and contributed beautifully to his team’s performance. “Frenkie de Jong was truly wonderful,” Inzaghi said, highlighting the midfielder’s ability to play such a crucial role for Barcelona.
While Inzaghi was happy with his own players and wouldn’t change them for anyone, he still made it clear that de Jong’s performance stood out as exceptional. He was keen to recognize the quality of the Barcelona player in what was a thrilling Champions League tie.
