India-Pakistan: Asian airlines re-route, cancel flights

In response to growing tensions between India and Pakistan, some airlines in Asia have adjusted or canceled their flights to and from Europe. These changes come after a major conflict broke out between the two countries on Wednesday.

India launched an attack on Pakistan on Wednesday, and in retaliation, Pakistan claimed it shot down five Indian fighter jets. This marked the most severe fighting between the two nuclear-armed countries in over 20 years. As a result, several airlines began changing their flight routes to avoid affected airspace.

Taiwan’s EVA Air announced that it would alter its European flights to avoid areas impacted by the ongoing conflict. The airline shared that a flight from Vienna would be rerouted back to its departure city. Another flight from Taipei to Milan will make a stop in Vienna for refueling before continuing to its final destination.

Korean Air has also been rerouting its flights to avoid Pakistan’s airspace. The airline’s flights between South Korea’s Incheon and Dubai, UAE, have been affected by the situation. The airline has made these changes to ensure the safety of its passengers.

Taiwan’s China Airlines, like EVA Air, has activated its safety measures to protect both passengers and crew. While the airline has not disclosed specific details, it has confirmed that steps have been taken to deal with the situation.

Additionally, the Taiwan Taoyuan Airport reported the cancellation of a China Airlines flight to London. Before the war in Ukraine, many European-bound flights from Taiwan used to pass over Russia, but this route is now blocked due to sanctions. As a result, Taiwanese airlines now often fly over India, Pakistan, and Central Asia.
