Tinubu vows to reclaim ungoverned forests in the North-West region

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has restated his administration’s commitment to recovering ungoverned forests in Nigeria’s North-West region. His government plans to use advanced surveillance technology to address ongoing issues such as terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry that have plagued the region.

Speaking at a state dinner hosted in his honour at the Katsina State Government House, Tinubu emphasized that national security is a priority. He called for collaboration among federal, state, and local governments to effectively tackle these challenges.

In his address, the President highlighted the importance of security in driving economic growth and fostering investor confidence. According to him, “Investment is cowardly—it will not go where there is banditry and terrorism. We will solve the problem together by reclaiming the forests and investing in technology.”

Tinubu also assured victims of terrorism that the federal government would provide them with support to rebuild their lives and communities. This pledge aligns with his goal of promoting peace and stability across the country.

The President further noted signs of economic recovery, attributing these to his administration’s bold policy decisions. As part of efforts to stimulate growth in the North-West, he announced plans to upgrade Katsina Airport. This initiative aims to create more jobs and foster economic activity in the region.

Governor Dikko Umar Radda revealed that the proposed airport expansion, which will include cargo and passenger terminals, will cost N54 billion and is expected to generate 2,700 direct jobs. The development is part of a broader plan to enhance infrastructure and promote regional growth.

Tinubu’s visit to Katsina also saw the attendance of several prominent governors from Kaduna, Jigawa, Borno, and other states. During the occasion, the President joined Governor Radda in celebrating his daughter’s wedding and expressed gratitude to the dignitaries for their support.
