Nigerian Bites Off Malaysian Police Officer’s Ear During Arrest

A 38-year-old Nigerian student in Malaysia, Okenyehike Kelvin Obianke, is facing serious charges after he allegedly bit off part of a police officer’s ear during an arrest.

The incident happened on April 25 in front of a private clinic at Metro Prima, Kepong, in Kuala Lumpur. The police said Obianke was acting strangely, which led to a distress call. Corporal Danielrul Azraq Ahmad Khair, a 36-year-old officer from the Sentul police mobile unit, arrived to handle the situation.

During the arrest, Obianke reportedly became violent and bit off part of the officer’s left ear. Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed that the officer suffered a serious injury. Doctors are waiting to see if the ear can be reattached, depending on the risk of infection.

Obianke went to court and pleaded not guilty. He told the court it wasn’t done on purpose. However, the court denied him bail. If found guilty under Section 325 of Malaysia’s Penal Code, he could face up to seven years in prison and a fine.

In another court case, he also denied using drugs and failing to show valid travel documents, both of which happened around the same time.

The court has set June 10 as the next date for the case and to appoint a lawyer for him.
