Chelsea took a big step towards reaching the Europa Conference League final with a strong 4-1 win over Swedish side Djurgarden in the first leg of the semi-final on Thursday.
The match started well for the Blues when Jadon Sancho scored in the 12th minute. Just a few minutes later, Noni Madueke made it 2-0 with a smart finish.
Chelsea’s goalkeeper, Filip Jorgensen, was alert and made key saves before and after halftime to keep Djurgarden from getting back into the game.
In the second half, Nicolas Jackson came off the bench and quickly made a difference. He scored two goals—one after taking advantage of a mistake in defense, and another with a powerful shot—putting Chelsea 4-0 ahead.
Djurgarden’s fans had a moment to enjoy when 18-year-old Isak Alemayehu scored a header for his first senior goal, making the final score 4-1.
The Swedish team had a chance to reduce the gap even more, but Adam Stahl missed an easy chance from close range.
With this win, Chelsea are in a great position to reach the final in Warsaw on May 28. Manager Enzo Maresca will be pleased with the team’s strong performance and result.
