England defender Dier to leave Bayern Munich at end of season

English defender Eric Dier will leave Bayern Munich when his contract ends in June 2025. The club confirmed the news on May 2. Dier, who is 31 years old, joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur on loan in January 2024. He later made the move permanent in the summer.

Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, said they talked to Dier about staying longer, but the player decided not to extend his contract.

Even though his current deal runs until June 30, Bayern might offer a short extension so he can play in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, which takes place from June 14 to July 13.

Dier started out as a backup defender but became a regular starter under former manager Thomas Tuchel. Under new coach Vincent Kompany, he hasn’t played as much but is still important to the team, especially when other defenders are injured.

Freund thanked Dier for his hard work and said he hopes Dier wins a title before leaving.

Reports say Dier is likely to join AS Monaco in France on a long-term contract until 2027. With 49 caps for England, Dier is hoping to get more regular playing time and restart his career at the French club.
