Nigerian music star Portable is turning to prayers and tradition after escaping jail. The singer, whose real name is Habeeb Okikiola, was recently found guilty of assault by the Ifo Magistrate Court in Ogun State. Instead of going to prison, he paid a fine of N30,000 and walked free.
The case was linked to a 2022 incident where Portable and others were accused of beating a man named Osimosu Emmanuel. The court charged him with two counts of assault. He was also accused of stealing musical equipment, but he was cleared of that charge.
After the court ruling, Portable posted a video on Instagram that got a lot of attention. In the video, he held a charm, prayed in Yoruba, and asked for peace and money. He sang, “I no want wahala again. I just want money, make money dey come,” showing he wants to avoid trouble from now on.
Portable seems to be on a new path, using traditional ways and prayer to bring good things into his life after his legal troubles.
