Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to be completed by January 2026 – Umahi

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has said that the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway will be finished by January 2026.

He shared this update during a visit to the construction site, where he met with the project’s financial partners — Dutch Bank and the Development Bank of Southern Africa. He confirmed that the work is going well and should be completed on time.

Umahi praised the construction company, Hitech Construction, for doing a great job. He said the road is being built with very strong concrete — even thicker than planned. “The design says 275 millimetres, but they’re doing 280 millimetres,” he explained.

He also thanked the Department of Bridge and Roads and Lagos’ Controller of Works for their hard work and commitment.

However, the minister warned about a possible problem. He noticed that some people might try to enter the highway from nearby houses, which could be dangerous. He said the road is a superhighway and should only be accessed through special routes like flyovers and interchanges to avoid traffic problems. He advised that more barriers and retaining walls should be added to stop unsafe entries.
