Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said he is not leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), even after his former running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Atiku, through his media aide Paul Ibe, made it clear that he has no hard feelings about Okowa’s decision. He said that everyone has the right to choose their political path.
“As a true democrat, Atiku believes in the freedom of association,” Paul Ibe stated. “This is an important part of democracy.”
Atiku also confirmed that he has no plans to leave the PDP and is not thinking about joining another political party. He said the rumors about him leaving the PDP are not true and should be ignored.
Meanwhile, Okowa recently said he regretted accepting to be Atiku’s running mate in the 2023 election. According to him, his people were not in support of a northern candidate becoming president again.
Okowa also said President Bola Tinubu should be allowed to finish his eight years in office for the sake of peace and stability in Nigeria. He believes after Tinubu’s tenure, power can then return to the North.
