The Federal High Court in Abuja has given the Nigerian government permission to let its witnesses testify behind a screen in the trial of Nnamdi Kanu. Kanu is facing charges related to terrorism because of his role as a leader in the Biafra movement.
The ruling was made on Tuesday, April 29, by Justice James Omotosho after the government’s lawyer, Chief Adegboyega Solomon (SAN), made a special request. He said hiding the identity of the witnesses was important for their safety.
Kanu’s lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), did not oppose the request. However, he asked the government to show fairness when Kanu’s bail application comes up.
So far, the government’s first witness—known only by the code name PWAAA—has started giving testimony as the trial begins.
