Shallipopi vows to boycott next Headies after organizers fail to present plaque for award he won

Nigerian music star Shallipopi has said he will no longer attend the Headies Awards after a disappointing experience at the 17th edition of the event in Lagos on Sunday.

Shallipopi had competed for the “Next Rated” award but lost to Odumodublvck, a fellow artist he often works with. However, he won the “Best Rap Single of the Year” with his song Cast.

When Shallipopi went up to the stage to collect his award, he was only given a handshake because the organizers had run out of award plaques during the event.

Feeling embarrassed, Shallipopi spoke out on Monday on his X (formerly Twitter) page. He said he didn’t even want the award because he doesn’t see himself as a rapper. He also said the award should be given to a real rapper instead.

In his words, “If you see me at the next one, I bend. I won’t even lie to you, I don’t want that award. Give it to the real rappers. Me, Shallipopi, I’m not a rapper.”
