A Nigerian lady named Lase faced heavy criticism online after she questioned why she should give her phone number to a man she met inside a Keke (commercial tricycle).
On social media platform X, she wrote, “I’m inside keke, you’re inside keke too. So why should I give you my number?”
Her comment sparked lots of reactions. Many people, including other women, accused her of looking down on the man just because he was using public transport, calling it a form of classism in poverty.
A user named Irunnia shared, “Most Nigerian women never see themselves as poor. They just think they are dating the wrong man.”
Another person called out Lase’s behavior, describing it as “classism in poverty.”
Architect Khalifa Rabiu also shared his story, explaining how appearances can be misleading. He once traveled on foot, by bike, and by private jet all on the same day. He even met one of his bosses in public transport. According to him, his boss’s wealth humbled him and taught him an important lesson about judging people too quickly.
In short, many Nigerians are reminding others that using public transport does not define a person’s true worth.
