At the 17th Headies Awards held at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, rapper Odumodublvck made headlines when he refused to leave the stage after receiving the Next Rated award.
Odumodublvck came on stage with his mother and a group of about 10 men. During his acceptance speech, organisers cut off his microphone to save time and asked him to step down. However, Odumodublvck stood his ground and refused to leave. Eventually, the organisers reconnected his microphone so he could finish speaking.
In his speech, he talked about overcoming challenges in the music industry. He said, “Years ago, people told us we couldn’t express ourselves in music the way we wanted. They said, ‘you can’t sound like this’ or ‘you can’t do this.’ But today, I’m proof that it’s all lies. I am here because of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who has supported me through everything. Tonight, God has shown that He reigns.”
Odumodublvck won the Next Rated category, beating Shallipopi, Qing Madi, Ayo Maff, and Nasboi. His award was presented by Afrobeats superstar, Davido.
Winning the Next Rated award also came with a car prize.
It’s worth noting that last year, Odumodublvck won Rookie of the Year at the 16th Headies held in Atlanta, Georgia, and received a house in Lagos as a reward.
