Earlier today, April 26, a truck carrying a full load (plate number GGE 624 YJ) lost control while crossing the Pen Cinema Bridge in Lagos. The truck fell off the bridge onto two parked commercial Volkswagen buses under the bridge, along Agege, Old Abeokuta Road.
Luckily, the buses were empty, and no passengers were inside at the time.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported that the truck driver suffered serious injuries, including broken bones in both hands. LASTMA officers quickly rescued him and handed him over to Elere Police officers. He was later taken to General Hospital, Ile-Epo, for urgent medical care.
LASTMA teams worked fast to block off the accident area, direct traffic, and team up with the LASEMA Response Unit to clear the wreckage. Traffic was restored to normal after their efforts.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, showed concern about the accident. He advised all drivers, especially truck drivers, to be extra careful, especially during the rainy season. He reminded them to follow road safety rules and obey the new speed limit regulations to avoid future accidents. He also wished the injured driver a quick recovery.
