Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu, saying he is not following Nigeria’s constitution.
Speaking at a leadership event in Lagos, Amaechi said the recent removal of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the state of emergency in Rivers State were both illegal. He said this shows that the government is now being run by the personal decisions of one man, rather than by law.
Amaechi also blamed the National Assembly, calling it weak and saying it failed to stop the President from acting unlawfully.
According to him, the President removed a governor who was elected by the people and then chose a military officer to take over the state. He said it’s shocking that no one is speaking out against this.
“For a governor or a president who subscribes to such a concept, it is what he or she does that becomes law—not what is written in the constitution,” he said. “We are witnessing a government driven not by the rule of law but by the whims of an individual.”
Recently, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State due to political issues. He also suspended the governor, his deputy, and the state assembly members, and appointed Ibok-Ete Ibas to take control of the state.
Amaechi warned that this move is a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy and rule of law.
