Bright Osayi-Samuel, a Nigerian international and defender for Fenerbahçe, has launched the second edition of his Under-13 football tournament in Edo State. The event, called the Bright Osayi U-13 Football Tournament, is focused on helping young boys grow their skills, build character, and enjoy the game of football.
Speaking at a press conference in Benin City, Osayi’s uncle, Michael Osaron, shared the tournament details. He said the event is more than just a competition. It’s a chance for young players to learn, form friendships, and show their natural talent on the pitch.
Osayi encouraged the players to give their best, learn from others, and enjoy the experience. He reminded them that football is not only about winning but about the joy of playing and the valuable lessons it teaches. He also thanked the coaches, officials, and supporters who are helping to shape the future of these young athletes.
Osayi, who once played on local fields before moving to Europe’s top leagues, said he hopes every player leaves the tournament with memories and lessons that last longer than any trophy.
Fred Erhunmwunse, Chairman of the Edo Football Association, said the first edition was the most successful youth football event in the state. This year’s tournament has even better prizes:
- Winner: N1 million
- First Runner-up: N750,000
- Third Place: N500,000
There will also be new awards for:
- Best-Behaved Team
- Highest Goal Scorer
- Best Defender
- Most Valuable Player
- Man of the Match
- Best Coach
Erhunmwunse praised Osayi for supporting grassroots football and urged everyone involved to work together to make the tournament a success. He also advised the young players to grab this chance, as it could open doors to future competitions.
