A man recently divorced his wife at a police station in Minna, Niger State, shortly after she was arrested during a raid on a hotel. The raid was part of an operation targeting places believed to be hideouts for members of criminal gangs and drug dealers.
According to a security officer who spoke anonymously, the woman was among several people detained during the operation. It was only after her arrest that her marital status became known when her family was contacted.
The operation followed increasing concerns about youth violence and crime in Minna. The Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, had ordered security forces to target individuals involved in disturbing the peace. During the raid, many suspects were arrested, including several women. One of the women’s husbands arrived at the police station and, without hesitation, divorced her three times.
The police were surprised by the situation, as they hadn’t yet investigated the suspects when the husband showed up.
