Delta Governor’s aide, Shimitte Winifred Bello is dead

Chief (Mrs.) Shimite Winifred Bello, who worked as the Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Trade and Export, has sadly passed away.

Reports say she died because of domestic violence. Some sources claim her husband has been arrested in connection with her death.

Although the full story is not clear yet, human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu confirmed her death on Facebook on Monday, April 21, 2025. Another activist, Comrade Victor Ojie (also known as Wong Box), also shared the news and warned that it is better to leave a marriage than lose one’s life.

Hon. Oge Okonkwo, another Facebook user, claimed that Shimite’s husband is now in police custody. Her personal aide, Tameta Sunday, also confirmed her death and accused her husband, who he described as a “pastor,” of killing her.

Shimite Bello was a well-known figure in Delta State. She was the Coordinator of the Delta State UNIDO Centre and helped run the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programme in the state.

She also hosted a TV show called African Pot, which promoted African food, culture, and tourism. She worked with international programs like USAID’s Lakaji Trade Corridor and was on the board of FESECA (Foundation for Economic Change in Africa). Shimite also wrote about travel and tourism for newspapers like Daily Trust and Leadership.

Many people are reacting to her death online, with strong messages encouraging women to leave abusive relationships before it’s too late.
