Nuclear deal possible if Washington is realistic – Iran

Iran has said that reaching a nuclear agreement with the United States is possible, but only if the US is realistic. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi made this statement before a second round of talks with the US.

Araqchi spoke in Moscow after meeting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. He said that if the US shows it is serious and avoids making unrealistic demands, the two countries could agree on a deal.

The first round of talks took place in Oman, and Iran said the US appeared serious during those discussions. The second round is planned to happen in Rome, with help from Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr al-Busaidi.

However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, mentioned that recent mixed messages from US officials have caused confusion. He said the US needs to clearly explain its position and prove it is truly committed to the talks.

Iran has said it is willing to limit its uranium enrichment, but it wants strong guarantees that former US President Donald Trump—or future leaders—won’t cancel the deal again. Trump had previously pulled the US out of a past nuclear agreement and has even threatened to attack Iran if no new deal is made.

Iran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, but many Western countries believe it may be trying to build a nuclear weapon.
