Former Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has shared important advice for Arsenal before their big UEFA Champions League game against Real Madrid.
Gomez remembers a tough match he played against Real Madrid during the 2011/12 Champions League semi-final. He said playing at Real Madrid’s stadium, the Santiago Bernabeu, was an intense experience. The crowd was loud, and the pressure was huge.
In an interview with Relevo, Gomez said that before the game, Bayern Munich’s manager at the time, Jupp Heynckes, told the players, “Today, we just need to survive the first 10 minutes. The stadium energy is unbelievable. We must stay strong and not let them score.”
But despite the warning, Real Madrid scored two goals within the first 10 minutes. Still, Bayern managed to stay in the game and eventually beat Real Madrid. However, they lost the final to Chelsea on penalties.
Gomez’s advice to Arsenal is simple: stay strong at the start, because the pressure at the Bernabeu is like no other.
