UCL: Rio Ferdinand tells Arteta how Arsenal should approach Real Madrid in second leg

Former Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand has shared his thoughts on how Arsenal should face Real Madrid in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final.

Arsenal is currently in a strong position after beating Real Madrid 3-0 in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium. Declan Rice scored two goals, and Mikel Merino added another to give the Gunners a big advantage.

Speaking on his podcast Rio Ferdinand Presents, the former England defender said Arsenal should not play too defensively in the return leg at Santiago Bernabeu. Instead, he thinks manager Mikel Arteta should tell his team to play bravely and go head-to-head with Real Madrid.

Ferdinand said, “How is Arteta going to prepare his team? That’s a big question. Will he sit back and protect the lead or go out and attack? I would go for it. If Arsenal scores just one goal, Madrid will need five to win. When have Arsenal ever conceded five?”

He added, “I’d say, let’s go toe to toe!”

The second leg match will kick off at 8 PM Nigerian time on Wednesday.
